Survey and Give-Away

As mentioned yesterday, I am working on our lesson plans for December. Last year we borrowed this idea and we wrapped up 25 Christmas books. The girls opened one every night and we read that book at bedtime. They LOVED it!!

We intend on doing that again, but as I have been looking through our Christmas books, I started wondering what other books are out there that I don't know about. I know there are tons of Christmas picture books so I want to know what your favorites are!

Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite Christmas picture book is. I will give you until Monday, November 23rd to comment and then I will pick a winner and send that person a copy of my favorite Christmas picture book.

I love anything in the Toot and Puddle series - I love the pictures! - so of course one of my favorites is "I'll Be Home for Christmas" by Holly Hobbie. That's a fun idea to wrap the books up!

Also, Kaitlyn was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday. :( I've never dealt with it before, but she'd been sick with a fever for a week (and with a cough for five weeks!) so I was glad to finally know what the problem was. Hopefully she and Lucy will be on the mend soon!

The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree is my absolute favorite.

I LOVE Jan Brett books, so my favorite would probably be any of her Christmas books (Twas the Night Before Christmas, The Christmas Trolls, The Mitten, etc.) I also like "What Santa Can't Do." When I taught, I'd read it and then have them come up with a poem that said, "Santa can't ______, Santa can't ________, Santa can't ________, but Santa CAN _________!"

This has been the tradition in our house for the last 4 years:

Dewayne reads the from the Bible (the story of Jesus' birth)...
He then reads "Twas the Night Before Christmas"...
and then he and Fowler sleep beside the Christmas tree!

So, our favorite Christmas picture book, by default, would have to be "Twas the Night Before Christmas!"

** I really like your idea of wrapping up 25 Christmas books. **

Hello, I stumbled across your blog from a friend of a friend, etc. (you know how that goes) and I think your girls are adorable! I love seeing pictures of how you dress them up together.

As for our favorite Christmas book, Twas the Night Before Christmas is it!

Love the idea of a book a day!

How do you choose one? I love Christmas and the stories that go with it. But one that I always seem to read to some child every year is The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado.

I honestly don't have a favorite Christmas picture book. We're wrapping books this year for the first time & I'm super excited. I only have about 12 so far, so I'd love to win yours! ;o)

I don't know that this is my favorite, but I've always liked this one from WAY BACK when Matt was little: The Poky Little Puppy's First Christmas. It's a Golden Book, but the one we have (very dog-eared [pardon the pun]) is a large hardback, author Adelaide Holl. It's secular, nothing about the true meaning of Christmas, but is a darling story nevertheless!

It's so hard to come up with a favorite. I'm an avid book reader and like SO many. :) One of my favorite silly Christmas stories is "Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia." Lily is really starting to like these stories because she is beginning to understand more of the humor behind the mistakes that Amelia makes. It's just a funny little read. We also really like the "Polar Express" more for the illustrations than the story.
Thanks Heather!

I think that's a hard question... I like so many but I'm not sure we have a favorite yet. I guess I like the Polar Express. In fact, I am looking for a great "true meaning" of Christmas book for my kids. Anyone have suggestions for that... you can e-mail me at hjtorbs@sbcglobal.net

I don't think (THINK) we own it, but I read "God Gave Us Christmas" when I was browsing in a book store and really like that one. We have very few Christmas books . . . hmmmm.

I don't think this story/book will win any contest where you are the judge, Heather, but you know what my favorite is. It is The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Anderson. It does take place on New Year's Eve, but to me it is still a Christmas story. I hope someday you will let me read it to your children, but I have to practice so I can get through it without crying.
