Meet Me at the Muny

Last night Norah and I went to the Muny with Alison and Ryan. We saw High School Musical. The kids had a great time! Norah loved the singing and dancing. It wasn't exactly the same as the movie, but it was still good.

It was a late night. We got home about 11:45 p.m. Needless to say we are tired!

Here are some pictures of our evening.

Swimming

We took the girls swimming today. The girls have been taking swimming lessons and we thought we should get to the pool and "practice." Most of the subdivisions here have subdivision pools - not ours, though. The girls are comfortable in the water - as long as they don't have to get their faces wet. In Norah's class she has to confidently put her face in the water in order to move up to the next class. We are in no hurry for her to move up if she isn't ready - but it would be nice if she wasn't afraid to get her face wet. I think if we swam more often (like if we had a subdivision pool) - they would both be more comfortable.
Lucy doesn't mind if she gets water in her face as long as you don't tell her. When she jumps in, she if fine if her face goes under - but she would never intentionally go under.
Anyway, we got to the pool about 11:00 and stayed until 1. The sun was out until about noon - then it looked like it could rain and it was fairly cool - 80 degrees. The girls didn't mind, though. Norah still would put her face under or jump in without holding our hands, but she did get more water splashed in her face. We have 2 more days of swim lessons, so we'll see how they end up.

Photography by Joy

I recently found the photography blog of a high school/church friend, Joy! I didn't know she took pictures and found her blog through her sister-in-law. Her pictures are beautiful. She is in the central Illinois area - so if you live near there and need your pictures taken - check her out here!!

Embarrassing

This is to piggyback Nicole's post last week. Let me give you some background information. Last night as we were going to bed, I said, "Should we set an alarm for tomorrow?" Kevin's response is "I'm sure Lucy will be up early." So I did not set an alarm.
In the midst of a dream, Kevin nudges me and says, "It's 7:45." We need to leave our house by 8:40 in order to get to church to get the girls to their classes and us to the service on time. We rushed around to get ready. The only thing that really takes time is Lucy going poopy. She has to sit for about 10 minutes or so and needs several books in order to go. If we don't give her time after breakfast to just sit and go, she will go in her underwear. We took turns reading her stories this morning while we finished getting ourselves and Norah ready. After she FINALLY went I rushed the girls out the door in plenty of time.
It was unusually cold outside and the girls had sleeveless dresses on. Lucy shivered a bit and Norah whined about the cold. Kevin carried Lucy to her class and I took Norah to hers. When we met up in the hallway, Kevin says with a smile, "Lucy was going commando." My response is "WHAT?!" He had gotten her off the potty this morning and sent her out to me - both thinking the other put her underwear on. He said he noticed when he picked her up and felt her bare bottom on his arm.
Thankfully, I had plenty of extra underwear in her bag. No wonder she shivered outside. Makes me wonder if anyone noticed her little bare bottom as he carried her to her class.

Saturday at the Market

Kevin ran in a 5K today. It isn't his favorite distance - he prefers 10K or half-marathon - but it was a charity race, raising money for an orphanage in Haiti.

When he got home we loaded up in the car and headed to the St. Charles Lions Club Farmers' Market. There weren't a lot of farmers there today - one lady said that it is still early in the season. We did get a watermelon and some blackberry vinigarette dressing. I would like to try to buy locally as much produce as I can this summer! We walked along the Katy Trail and then shopped a little on Historic Main Street. We bought some apple butter - a favorite at our house. We only went into a handful of shops - Lucy touches way to many things and just caused a little trouble, so we headed home around 11.
We ended our outing with lunch at Max & Erma's. I had their chicken salad sandwich on croissant - yummy!

This is our second Saturday in a row without specific plans and it has been great!!

Another Beautiful Day, The Zoo, and a Baseball Game

We have had some beautiful weather! The girls and I were planning on going to Jackson's baseball game today, and since they live about 5 minutes from the zoo, I decided today would be a great day for an outing.

We headed to the zoo about 1:30. About 30 minutes after we got to the zoo, we ran into our good friends, the Harper's. Norah and Kate are good friends from church. It was a fun surprise to run into them. We spent the next couple of hours walking around with them, until they needed to leave.

We saw the baby giraffe - so cute!! The ostrich wouldn't leave the baby alone - the mommy giraffe finally put an end to the pestering and pushed the ostrich out of the way. The girls thought that was hilarious!!

Jackson did a great job playing baseball! He is great at hitting! Norah and Lucy were so glad to get to see him play. They also enjoyed playing with Janelle!

We are all exhausted - but we had a great day!!

A Little of This and a Little of That

So I haven't taken a single picture of my girls this week!! Ugh! We've had a lot going on this week so I had the opportunity, but I just didn't.
We went to a birthday party for Norah's friend, Kate, on Monday morning. Lucy wasn't feeling that great - cold, cough, and GRUMPY - so our friends, the Keim's, kept Lucy. It was great! Thanks, Cheri, Gaby, Dawson, and Macy!! Norah had a great time and it was nice for me to not have to worry about a clinging little one.
Wednesday we went swimming with the Morrison's. They have a really nice subdivision pool - we had a great time! The girls need more pool exposure because neither one is very confident in the water- we are doing swim lessons next week.
Thursday morning we met the Harper's at a park. We met at 9:30 and it was already 90 degrees!!! Poor Lucy sweats so easily so her hair was soaking wet within a half hour. Since her hair is curly - it looked crazy from the humidity! We ate lunch and went for a little walk before heading home. Both girls took great naps!
Today was a hang out home day! We needed it because even when we were home, we were outside! I had a lot of housework to catch up on.
I will try to get some pictures of the girls this weekend - not sure what we are doing, though. Our weekends have been so crazy that we are looking forward to a weekend with no plans!!

THIS was on my front porch!

I had just put the girls to bed. Kevin was at the Dave Matthews Band concert at Busch Stadium. I was going to go out front to water my plants and as I was walking through the dining room, I looked out the window and saw this!

I had to gently pull back the curtain and when I took the picture the bird flew away. I didn't water my flowers, though. I was a little freaked out. My watering waited until this morning.

I have a lot to post about Norah's dance recital, but I need to gather my thoughts so that will be another day.

Bath Crayons

So I bought these bath crayons for the girls. We've had them before, but Norah was just 2 and Lucy was a baby. I think Norah liked them well enough for a 2 year old, but she didn't miss them once she used them up.
Let me begin by saying that my girls don't really like bathtime. They do okay for the grandmas, but they scream whenever Kevin or I give them baths, which is - oh, yea, ALL THE TIME. I have bought all kinds of toys, but they don't care.
Anyway, I bought the crayons and the girls LOVE them! When we bought them, the girls and I made a deal that they could use them as long as they cleaned up their "art" when bathtime was over. They have used the crayons for EVERY bath in the last 2 weeks and they have been great about wiping down the walls. The best part is that they have not cried for a single bath since I bought the crayons.
Tonight, every square inch of the bathtub and surround were COVERED in crayon. When it was time to clean up, Norah was shoving Lucy to clean a certain corner. I gave her several warnings about not shoving Lucy. I finally told her she was finished and she must get out. She started crying, "Nooooo! Please don't make me get out. I'm not done cleaning!"

I NEVER thought I would hear her say that!
