No Guarantee

So my plan of not making Norah nap and putting her to bed early - not so great. Yes, she did fall asleep right away. However, around 11:30 I woke to BOING, BOING, BOING. I went into her room and she was JUMPING! I told her to lay down and go to sleep - it is still night time. I go back to bed, fall back to sleep (which is an accomplishment in itself since I have been dealing with insomnia for about 2 months now) and I wake up at 12:30 a.m. to BOING, BOING, BOING. She was jumping again!!! This time, I went into her room and laid her down and walked out. I think she fell back to sleep pretty quickly. I, on the otherhand, was awake until 2. So, now I am EXHAUSTED! Norah woke up with a cold - which for her means extra breathing treatments. So, we will try to get in 4 today.
I am going to remember Isaiah 40:31 "Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall. But those who hope in the Lord with renew their strength. They will run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint."

So I guess this is a good Thoughts for Thursday topic. Do your kids do crazy things in the night? Do they still nap at 3 1/2? How about insomnia - anyone been there? If so, any suggestions!!

Every once in awhile Porter wakes up in the middle of the night having a fit (wants to "rock a bye baby" but then kicks and screams when you try to rock him). There has been a time or two (in the past year or so) where he's woken up at 10pm or so and was wide awake so we just let him stay up for a bit until he was tired again. It was only a couple times, though.

I am crossing my fingers Porter still naps at 3.5. Or at least "rests" in his room. One of my nieces doesn't nap anymore at all (4.5) and hasn't since she was 18mos. Her 2 sis's nap, though (they're 2 and 3).

tucker wakes up almost every night between 10pm and 430am. many nights i have no urge to 'make' him stay in his bed after that point so we take him in our bed for the rest of the night. i know this has to stop, but with two parents working full time - it sucks to fight the battle with him. things are getting better slowly though.

tucker is 18 months and has his afternoon nap everyday. i hope he continues this for a while, however, maybe if i kept him up all day he would sleep all night! :)

i've never had insomnia - sorry i'm not much help on that subject!

My son usually has spurts of waking up numerous times during the night after he's been teething and sometimes during. He wants to cuddle but wants down, then wants to play. Each time he is up longer and longer, usually between 1.5-3.5 hours at a time. He was also not taking very good naps, if at all during this time. It is exhausting but the only thing that has gotten us out of that is having my husband get up with him as much as possible. We figured out he gets up because he wants mommy and when he doesn't get me, he eventually sleeps all night again.

Matthew is 14.5 months old and did this both times he's had major teething.

Mallory just turned 3 and naps are becoming very difficult. Sometimes she falls asleep and naps great other times she sleeps only 30 minutes and other times not at all. When she doesn't sleep our evenings are terrible b/c she's so tired. She's asleep by(or before)7:00 on those nights. When she takes a great 2hr nap she's awake until 9:00!

Immediately after Mallory was born Madison completely stopped napping and seriously would not sleep at night!! From the time we would put her down she would get up 100 times
before falling asleep and then would wake up an hour later and do it all over again. We tried putting her in our room on the floor but i was up all hours of the night nursing a fussy newborn and she would just get woken up. Sometimes she would wake up around 4:00 or 4:30am and be awake for the day!!! Dan slept on the floor in her room for at least a month. We literally tried everything to get her to sleep... she was back to a normal sleeping pattern...EIGHT MONTHS LATER!

I love that Bible verse by the way. :)

my guys talk in their sleep. sometimes this can creep me out a bit, especially if i wake up hearing it. my youngest, matt has never been a good sleeper. he finally was doing really well staying in bed but has been waking again almost nightly and sneaking in my bed. ugh!!! i usually put him back, if i know that he's there.

my oldest son, napped until about 4.5, while my youngest very rarely ever napped. they are all just sooo different!

Hi Heather,
I had insommnia in high school. I used to drink a cup of hot tea just before bed and try to do as many "relaxing" things as possible before going to sleep. I would read, maybe take a shower, something calming. I would even do relaxation exercises in bed (picutre each part of my body relaxing slowly). I'm not sure if I had insommnia now that any of this would work, but it seemed to work at the time. Hope things improve soon...

I have to keep telling myself that this is only a 'season' and that it will end soon, life will be normal and we will all have survived!

Savannah stopped napping about a month before Sawyer was born. Just when I needed her to nap the most!!! She was just about 2 1/2.
Since then she has always still had a rest time... from about 12:30 to 2 o'clock (she knows how to tell time and that she can get up at two) she's quiet in her room. She can read books or listen to music, but she needs to be calm and she needs to be quiet. She would usually fall asleep about twice a week. The problem is is that she would always fall asleep right before 2. So then she'd sleep till almost 4. And then be wide awake until sometimes 10pm. That's when I started rest time earlier. So now if she falls asleep I never let her sleep past 2:30. It's just that quick cat nap that she needs anyway. Otherwise it takes her forever to fall asleep at night.

My kids don't usually get up at night. Early morning, yes. It's not uncommon for Sawyer to come in at 5:30 asking if it's time to get up. So that's where we struggle.

I've had horrible insomnia for much of the last two years. Melatonin helps. I notice if I take it for a few days I fall asleep much easier on my own, and then I don't need to bother with it anymore.
Also, Unisom. I about lived on that almost the whole year we were in Michigan. I took that a lot when Sawyer would go through a baby phase of getting up at night. I still woke up easily, but it made it much easier to fall back to sleep all night.
